Leading steel and technology group, Salzgitter AG, has announced a groundbreaking initiative towards advancing the circular economy with the construction of a new shredder plant for scrap metal. With an investment of nearly €30 million, the project aims to enhance the supply of high-quality scrap metal for low CO2 steel production. Scheduled for commissioning in mid-2026, the new facility will play a pivotal role in supporting the SALCOS® initiative, Salzgitter’s innovative approach to low carbon steelmaking.

Lybover is proud to announce that it will be partnering in this venture with Lindemann Germany GmbH, a machinery and equipment manufacturer based in Düsseldorf. Drawing on the combined extensive expertise in machinery technology, sorting techniques, and dust abatement, both companies will join forces to design and build this 189-meter-long, 66-meter-wide facility for Deutsche Erz- und Metall-Union GmbH (DEUMU).

Hans Boels – CEO Lybover

We are embarking on this project with confidence based on our proven expertise and a strong partnership of like-minded parties. This project not only combines our experience in dedusting and separation techniques in the scrap industry. It is also a prime example of our open-box approach where, after a thorough process analysis, we select the right technology and machinery together with DEUMU and Lindemann to meet the highest scrap recycling requirements and emission standards. This realisation provides a sustainable response to the qualitative and quantitative demand for high-quality steel scrap. In terms of dedusting, thanks to the technology of our partner Keller Lufttechnik GmbH, the plant will meet the highest emission standards set by TA Luft. We are proud that we can not only design but also build this innovative plant together, entirely in the spirit of the Lybover-DNA.
