Depla wanted to further reduce emissions from the shredder extraction system and become future-proof without disrupting the existing process. Limited space, variable dust flows and the risk of deflagration made the challenge complex.
Lybover AIR developed a compact, customised solution with an ultrafilter that fits perfectly into the existing installation. Thanks to 3D scanning and VR, the layout could be optimised, including dust removal to big bags and integrated explosion protection.
During a brief production halt, the installation was assembled flawlessly. After commissioning, Depla now complies with the most stringent European emission standards. The investment is part of a broader sustainability approach.
Depla nv in Meulebeke specialises in scrap metal processing. With modern machinery and a strong focus on sustainability, this family business processes ferrous and non-ferrous metals in an efficient and environmentally friendly manner, with respect for the immediate surroundings. To strengthen its position and prepare for future regulations, Depla continuously invests in its site.
Flexible solution for a forward-thinking metal recycler
In the context of these investments, the question arose as to what possibilities Lybover could offer to further optimise the shredder extraction after the wet separator in order to comply with the current emission regulations. Essential preconditions for this were minimal disruption to production and a compact installation that would not interfere with the existing recycling process. In addition, the installation had to be suitable for challenging process parameters, including a continuously changing dust supply, moist air flow and the risk of deflagration from the shredder. Our solution? The proven technology of the ultrafilter, adapted to the customer’s needs.
Customisation at every step
Lybover designed a solution that fits perfectly with the existing setup. This took into account minimal production downtime and the required guarantees of low residual emissions, even with varying input of material into the shredder. The new layout was planned as efficiently as possible. Due to lack of space, the installation was built on top of an existing building. Dust is collected by gravity in a big bag station on the ground floor, which is easily accessible by forklift. The piping, with accompanying safety measures against deflagration, was integrated into the existing piping. Despite the limited space and tight schedule, the installation went smoothly and without a hitch. This was thanks to the preliminary 3D scanning, which enabled meticulous preparation. This 3D scanning made VR sessions possible, which, in consultation with the operators, ensured smooth and easy accessibility.
Minimal downtime, maximum impact
All crucial adjustments were implemented during a limited production halt over the Christmas holidays. As a result, the installation was fully operational again at the beginning of 2026 without any disruption to production. After air technical measurements and adjustments, the extraction system was successfully put into operation. With this investment, Depla complies with the strictest emission regulations being introduced throughout Europe. Based on its experience with numerous installations across Europe, Lybover was able to further optimise the ultrafilter in a number of areas, including energy consumption, simpler peripheral equipment and robustness of the installation. Through smart integration and forward thinking, Lybover AIR has realised this state-of-the-art solution that fits perfectly with the existing installation. In this way, Lybover helps companies such as Depla to make their processes future-proof, ready for the next generation.
A broader approach to sustainability
This dust extraction solution is part of a series of investments with which Depla is further modernising its site. In addition to expanding the extraction system, investments were made in fire detection, solar panels and the enclosure of large parts of the site. In this way, Depla is not only committed to efficient recycling, but also to a safe and sustainable future.
