On September 1st, the ground-breaking ceremony took place for a pioneering recycling project at the DEUMU site in Salzgitter, Germany.
This large-scale initiative, driven by DEUMU and Salzgitter AG, sets a new benchmark for sustainable metal recycling in Europe.
Lybover is proud to play a key role in this ambitious project.
As a Belgian engineering and integration specialist, Lybover was entrusted with the complete scope from pre-engineering to realization – combining cutting-edge technology with hands-on execution.
The new shredder plant will feature components manufactured using Salzgitter’s own high-quality Brinar wear-resistant steel, ensuring durability and performance. After 2.5 years of intensive engineering and an additional year of construction, this installation will become a true reference project in the shadow of the new direct reduction steel mill of Salzgitter (part of the SALCOS® – program for low CO² STEEL)– the first of its kind in Europe. And even more important, this scrap recycling installation will meet all emission limits without exception…
What makes this project unique?
For the first time, a steel producer is directly defining the quality requirements for the recycling process. This approach not only raises the bar for scrap companies but also opens new opportunities for steelmakers to integrate recycling expertise into their operations. Lybover’s experience in delivering tailored solutions for the recycling industry now extends beyond traditional scrap companies to directly support the steel industry – a milestone we are proud to achieve.
